Wine labels and legislation
A label for a wine bottle must look great and comply with European labeling rules. According to Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 and supplementary wine legislation, a wine label must include:
- Product name and type: e.g., Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc.
- Alcohol by volume: e.g., 13% vol.
- Net quantity: e.g., 750 ml.
- Name and address of the producer or bottler.
- Country of origin.
- Allergen information: e.g., contains sulfites.
- Lot or batch number.
- Geographical indication (AOC, DOC, IGP, etc.), where applicable.
